We found a site but some of us turned back as the smoke from the fire was getting pretty heavy. Thankfully where we were was not too too bad. But it looked bad. Like literally, the fire looked like it was just about to jump over the mountain and I must say at first I wasn't so sure.
We drove to see how far the actual fire was and to my surprised it was farther then I could ever have expected.
We decided to stay but made sure we had an easy way out incase things changed. I mean there was ashes falling from the sky, looked like a scene from Dantes peak!
Thankfully to our surprise the smoke cleared out pretty quickly and the remainder of the weekend wasn't too too bad.
We couldn't quite hike around still from smoke and since we did have others with us we decided to head to the Icefield Parkway. I did go see the new Skywalk. My thoughts, yes, if you can't go out there climbing and hiking then you do get a view. But I would make sure to try to go earlier on during the day as there was a lot of people. I don't feel the greatest in big crowd and that is the only downside I had. My daughter? Loved it! She is always trying to find new thrills and adventure and she was just enjoying the view. I did like it, If family was coming and wanted to "see without doing", it would be a wonderful addition to the Icefield explorer but as for me I think Ill stick to hiking the mountains myself :)
It was another great weekend in the mountains and it was very impressive to see the fire although it does break my heart to see the forest I know burning as bad as it is....
